100% Vicuna-like Alpaca Fabric
Vicuna fabric is considered the most valuable fabric on the planet. It is extremely soft, light - and because of its rarity extraordinary expensive.
COKAL offers a fabric very much like vicuna, but although not cheap, it is still affordable. We breed our own alpacas that produce this fine fibre. They are called VILYA - vicuna like yarn alpacas. These fine fibres can only be spun and woven in specialized mills in Europe. This fabric has the same properties as vicuna. It is different to ordinary alpaca, because it is woven using only extremely fine alpaca fibres, not identical to vicuna but very similar. Touching both fabrics, vicuna and COKAL’s vicuna-like alpaca fabric, you will not feel a difference.
It has excellent thermoregulatory properties due to the unique structure of the fiber. There are small air bubbles inside the fibers. That makes it a perfect insulator. This means that the material is comfortable to wear in winter as well as in extreme heat.
The surface of the individual fiber is very smooth. This property and the very small fiber diameter, below 18 micron, are responsible for the softness. It feels as soft as merino or cashmere, but has the additional insulating property that sheep's fibers lack. Vicuna like alpaca fabric is 30% lighter than sheep wool. It is hypoallergenic, so it is also suitable for people who are allergic to wool.
The fabric absorbs moisture and is water repellent.
Currently only a small amount of the raw material is available which also limits the amount of available fabric. We get the next batch of fibres every year after shearing in April/May. The fabric made from it will then be ready in September/ October.
The only color now available is black.
We sell the fabric per running meter from a roll that is 130 cm wide.
Considering the price we offer to send a sample for $ 10.00 (shipping free) to enable our customers to be convinced of the quality and feel the fabric.
This fabric is ideal to make a luxury dress or jacket - or even an abaya or schaila or hidschab.
